Changes in Weight and Blood Composition of Hereford and Brahman Steers in Drylot and Infested with Adult Gulf Coast Ticks12

Abstract
When the effects of Amblyomma maculatum Koch on Hereford and Brahman breeds of cattle were measured, significant differences in weight gains between infested and uninfested Herefords were noted but not between infested and uninfested Brahmans. Uninfested Herefords gained almost 27 kg more than the tick-infested Herefords during the 8-week study. Mean values of blood parameters measured for each breed-treatment combination group on the same day were most often not significantly different.
