Initiation of Uterine Contractions by Disopyramide during Pregnancy

Abstract
DISOPYRAMIDE (Norpace), a new antiarrhythmic agent with electrophysiologic properties similar to quinidine and possessing anticholinergic activity,1 is effective in the suppression of ventricular and supraventricular tachyarrhythmias and ectopy with minimal toxicity.2 3 4 5 6 7 In this report we describe the initiation of uterine contractions associated with the use of this agent in a pregnant woman with cardiac arrhythmias due to mitral-valve prolapse.Case ReportA 31-year-old woman was admitted to the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont at 32 weeks' gestation because of an abnormal Holter cardiac-monitor recording.
