Abstract
Presentation of CaseA 17-year-old girl was admitted to the hospital because of fever.She was well until two weeks previously, when an upper-respiratory-tract infection developed, with a progressive sore throat. Nine days before entry a physician found that she was febrile; the tonsils were enlarged, with a white exudate, and tender cervical lymph nodes were palpated. Penicillin was begun. The fever diminished, but the patient did not improve. During the next few days the temperature ranged as high as 38.3°C, and diffuse myalgias appeared. Four days before admission aspirin was added.
