Abstract
Amniography and intravenous placentography are briefly discussed. Previous work on a method employing soft-tissue radiography only is reviewed in more detail. It is suggested that the unconvincing explanations first given were such as to discourage wide trials of the method, and may be the reason for its limited acceptance in this country. The anatomical factors which may be concerned in the formation of the so-called placental shadow are discussed. The incidence of anterior and posterior implantation, based on radiographic appearances, was approximately equal in 252 patients examined. In 42 of these, radiological localisation was later found to be correct in 41, and incorrect in one. The apparent relationship of fœtal position to placental site is mentioned.
