Abstract
1. In his classical investigation of the motion of a sphere moving (without spin) in a fluid at rest at infinity, Stokes showed (using his method of ‘stream functions') that the sphere experiences a thrust − 6πμau, where a is the radius of the sphere, and μ, u have their usual meanings. Keywords
