THE EFFECTS OF ESTRONE ON THE RESPONSE TO TESTOSTERONE PROPIONATE IN CASTRATED MALE RATS

Abstract
Date are presented on the responses to a series of combinations of estrone and testosterone propionate over a wide range of doses. Both body weight gain and levator ani weights reflect the catabolic character of the response to estrogens and the anabolic effects of androgens. The seminal vesicles respond to both androgens and estrogens, but the response to testosterone propionate far exceeded the response to estrone. The ventral prostate, on the other hand, responded only to the androgen. The effects of several other estrogenic and non-estrogenic steroids are also discussed.
