Chemical constituents of precipitation and their role in determining its acidity in Bombay

Abstract
This paper deals with the physical and chemical analysis of precipitation in Bombay. The study was conducted at two sites and samples were analyzed for 12 physical and chemical constituents. It was observed that HNO3, H2SO4, and HC1 were responsible for lowering the pH but due to high emissions of ammonia there was a neutralizing effect. The rain was found to be mostly alkaline in nature. Calculations of sea salt ratios and ionic balance of aerosols were also carried out to indicate the contribution from anthropogenic sources.
