Abstract
Fifty-eight patients with alopecia areata were examined with a slit-lamp. Symptomless punctate lens opacities were found in 9 patients (17%). Similar lens changes occurred in 4 of 20 control patients (20%) with normal vision. As the significance of minor lens changes in alopecia areata is difficult to determine, we do not advocate routine slit-lamp examinations in these patients.
