Abstract
Attempts were made to detect transmission of Moloney leukemogenic virus (MLV) infection in mice of several susceptible strains. Neonatalcontact mice were caged either with potentially infectious young or adultinfectors of the established high-leukemic strains C3Hf*/Lw, C3Hf */Bi/ and RF*. Little or no evidence of contact infection was observed under what is considered optimal conditions for “horizontal” transmission of virus. Oral washings and urine, however, were infectious when introduced parenterally into susceptible low-leukemic mice. It is concluded that contact infections in natural environments must be minimal.
