A Note on Control Area

Abstract
Control area, or the integrated error for a step function input, has been used as a measure of control system performance. For systems described by θ0(s)θi(s)=e−sTd(τ1s+1)(τ2s+1)…(τms+1)(T1s+1)(T2s+1)…(Tns+1), it is proved that the control area is A=Td+ ∑ i=1n Ti− ∑ i=1mτi. A simple method of evaluation is presented and some limitations of the control area criterion are mentioned.
