Abstract
In this group of 73 patients with carcinoma of the prostate treated radically by external radiation therapy, striking alleviation of local symptoms occurred in all but 9. Thirteen of 30 patients have survived for more than 5 years without evidence of local recurrence or distant metastases. The survival at 5 years for the entire group as computed by the actuarial method is 54%. It is believed that this study has demonstrated a new approach to the treatment of localized carcinoma of the prostate, an approach which promises survival rates comparable to those achieved by radical surgery with less hazard to the patient and less disturbance of normal function. Keywords
