Abstract
The Stark shift and splitting of the resonance lines of the lithium atom were investigated in electric fields up to 420 kV/cm, using laser–atomic-beam spectroscopy. The scalar and tensor polarizabilities of the levels 2 and 2 of both isotopes and were accurately determined. The experimentally obtained level polarizabilities are compared with theoretically calculated values.
