Plasma Lipids of Dogs During and After Chronic Ethanol Administration.

Abstract
Summary The response of plasma lipids to daily administration of ethanol (4 g kg body weight) for 12 weeks and following the cessation of ethanol administration was investigated in dogs. Chronic administration of ethanol resulted in marked and sustained increases in plasma concentrations of triglycerides, lipid phosphorus and total cholesterol, and in a decrease of plasma unesterified fatty acids. There was a slight increase in plasma volume. Upon discontinuing administration of ethanol the plasma lipids returned to baseline levels.
