Abstract
Summary The length of the cervix was measured by ultrasound in 57 patients who had no previous history of middle trimester abortion or premature labour. The length at 14 weeks or less was found to range from 2.4 to 3.1 cm and the length of the cervix significantly shortened as pregnancy progressed up to 24 weeks (P < 0.01). A larger prospective study is now required to ascertain the value of routine cervical length assessment as an aid to the prediction of middle trimester abortion or preterm delivery. Keywords
