Nitrites XX. Pharmacologic Studies with 1-Ethylglyceryl Trinitrate

Abstract
1-Ethylglyceryl trinitrate and glyceryl trinitrate qualitatively and quantitatively evoke the same character of coronary dilatation on the perfused heart of the rabbit. Each ester is fixed by the coronary vessels to approximately the same degree. Glyceryl trinitrate is reduced to nitrite in passing through the coronary vessels to a greater extent than is 1-ethylglyceryl trinitrate. Each ester evokes a depressor response in the dog, which is nullified by previous hydrolysis with alkali.
