The visible metaphor

Abstract
The Visible Metaphor, or group interpretation that gives a ritual or symbolic stage form to literature, transcends imitation, transforms and illuminates while it celebrates the literature. This article describes a “metaphorical” staging of D. H. Lawrence's story “The Horse Dealer's Daughter” to illustrate this transformation and illumination. The author concludes that adaptor/directors and theorists of group interpretation may well use the Visible Metaphor to study the literature in its own terms as well as for its effect on audiences.
