AERIAL SAMPLING BY HELICOPTER: A METHOD FOR STUDY OF DIFFUSIEON PATTERNS

Abstract
The trend toward larger and larger steamelectric plants, using fuels with high sulfur content, is resulting in increased attention to studies of diffusion of power-plant stack gases in the atmosphere. This article describes a method for sulfur-dioxide air-pollution sampling, utilizing a continuous analyzer and recorder operated in a helicopter. This method was developed to overcome many of the limitations of conventional sampling methods encountered in diffusion studies at one of the large coal-fired steamelectric plants in the Tennessee Valley Authority power system.
