Corrections to a Proposed Magnetic-Impurity Ground State

Abstract
Important modifications to the ground state of a magnetic impurity in a metal studied by Appelbaum and Kondo have been found. These lead to a renormalization of the anomalous correlation energy in the case of antiferromagnetic exchange and a disappearance of anomalous correlations in the case of ferromagnetic exchange, in agreement with other studies. We also conclude that low-temperature properties cannot be uniquely predicted on the basis of the zero-order ground state.
