Abstract
A new arrhenotokous endoparasite, Pseudeucoila sp. (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae), which attacks the 1st- and 2nd-stage larvae of several Drosophila species, was collected at a number of mid-east coast localities. Using wasp and D. melanogaster (Meig.) populations which originated from Chapel Hill, N. C., the basic features of the parasites' life history were determined. The techniques used enabled partitioning the daily egg production and resultant sex ratio, and the daily pattern of offspring emergence as affected by development time. Female wasps had a life expectancy of 15.8 days with 72.4% of the female progeny and 53.1% of the total successful eggs produced during the 1st day. Total offspring production was 371.7 with a 0.45 sex ratio (males/total progeny). The net reproductive rate, generation time, and intrinsic rate of increase were 202.8, 21.3 days and 0.25, respectively. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
