Abstract
The collective coordinates appropriate to a trigonally distorted tetrahedron are derived. The changes in the local crystal field produced by such collective displacements of ligand ions relative to a central ion are calculated with particular reference to Cu2+ ions in a ZnO lattice. Keywords
