Abstract
The consequences of new technology in work processes and in local com munities seem both chaotic and full of discrepancies Contrasting results are also to be found when studying women's work Will technology force unemployment, lack of influence, bad working conditions, etc. ? Or will women's central functions in the social renewal processes constitute oppo sition to the male-dominated technological development? The consequences seem to be a question of male versus female culture, of power relations and of gender specific divisions of labour To make this clear is an essential purpose of the theoretical as well as the empirical study in the years to come.
