A METHOD FOR THE MICROSCOPICAL STUDY OF ACTINOMYCETES

Abstract
Moist, sterile, cellophane rectangles are placed on the surface of a solid nutrient medium. The upper surface of the cellophane is inoculated with a spore suspension of a Streptomyces. The organism receives nutrients by diffusion through the cellophane membrane. The cellophane rectangles can be picked up and put on microscope slides for study at any point of the life cycle of the organism. The staining of microscopic prepns. of this type is discussed. This method can be applied to the study of other genera of the actinomycetes.
