Abstract
Gingival ulcers caused by toothbrushing in 13 patients with an average age of 29.9 yr are presented. The lesions show characteristic clinical features not compatible with simple traumatic ulcers, e.g., running a more chronical course, the duration averaging 6.5 mo. Repeated trauma and, in some cases, infection might explain the chronicity. The lesion is suggested to be designated traumatic ulcerative gingival lesions. As treatment, cessation of toothbrushing for 2 wk and concomitant mouthrinses with chlorhexidine are recommended. Keywords
