The Immediate Effects of Local Radiation on the Cells in the Peritoneal Cavity of Mice

Abstract
Studies on the peritoneal fluid of mice subjected to 375 and 465 rads of ionizing radiation delivered locally in one dose to the mouse abdomen indicate that: Cells vary in their response to radiation. Mast cells and histiocytes showed a definite increase at 15 minutes, and at no time was there any evidence that either cell types was damaged by radiation. Lymphocytes on the other hand, showed a definite decrease in numbers, and abnormal morphology.
