Abstract
To the Editor: A major factor in the cost of care for patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is short-term inpatient hospitalization.1 2 3 4 Previous studies have suggested that the primary reason that the care of patients with AIDS has been less costly in San Francisco than in New York City is that fewer days of hospitalization have been required.3 , 5 , 6 To develop better health-planning data, we reviewed trends in the proportion of patients with AIDS living in San Francisco who required hospitalization from January 1, 1984, to June 30, 1987.We obtained data on hospitalization from the computerized discharge records of . . .Keywords
