Abstract
Observations at JHKL are presented for 38 late-type supergiants in the Magellanic Clouds. These are discussed in terms of the J−H, H−K and J−K, MBol diagrams. The sample includes irregular, long-period and Shapley–Nail variables. The usefulness of the brightest red supergiants as extra-galactic distance indicators is discussed.
