Abstract
The triazine compound cyromazine (CGA-72662) is an effective inhibitor of larval development of Lucilia cuprina (Wiedemann). A concentration of 0.5 ppm in larval rearing medium was sufficient to completely inhibit adult emergence. Both egg production and subsequent larval development were inhibited in a concentration-dependent manner when cyromazine was administered to adult flies via drinking water (1–20 μg/ml). A concentration of 20 ppm was sufficient to completely inhibit subsequent larval development. This inhibition corresponded to a cyromazine concentration of approximately 1.5 μg/g (or 0.1 ng) within the egg. Inhibition of egg production was only partially reversible; egg hatch, however, remained unaffected.
