Abstract
Antibodies [Ab] against naked particles, virus envelope and whole herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 1 were investigated. Immune rabbit serum against naked particles (and formalized naked particles) contained virus neutralizing (VN) Ab in a low titer compared to the titer of complement-fixing (CF) Ab. Immune rabbit serum against the viral envelope had similar titer of VN and CF Ab. In gel double diffusion precipitation tests whole HSV gave 2 precipitation zones with Ab against naked particles, 2 zones with Ab against the virus enelope, several zones with Ab against whole virus and 2 marked zones against human convalescent serum. Viral nucleocapsid reacted with 2 zones with Ab against the nucleocapsid and a faint zone with Ab against the virus envelope. The envelopes gave 2 zones with Ab against whole virus and a faint zone with Ab against naked particles. Human convalescent serum gave a single precipitation zone with viral nucleocapsid and 2 zones with virus envelope and whole virus. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
