Abstract
We study the effect of dielectric friction on an ion moving in a fluid. We show that the singular electric force density near the ion surface due to the discontinuity of polarization may be taken into account by use of an electrohydrodynamic boundary condition. We calculate the frequency dependent translational friction coefficient for arbitrary values of the charge and present numerical results for the friction coefficient at zero frequency. Keywords
