Abstract
Six chimpanzees were required to learn 3 separate discrimination problems in which response to 1 of 2 identical food covers was detd. by the presence of the positive cue on some trials and by the presence of the negative cue on other trials. In all 3 problems, fewer errors were made on trials providing only the positive cue as against trials providing only the negative cue. These results were interpreted in terms of the differential mastery of approach and avoidance habits. Keywords
