Abstract
Information from deep wells in the Paris basin revealed the geographic extent of each member of the Triassic series. During Triassic time a deep gulf was created gradually on the site of the present basin. This gulf was bounded on the north by the Ardennes land mass, which was rising. The southern shore of the gulf lay north of the central Massif. The present center of the basin was a zone of subsidence.
