Abstract
A multichannel quantum defect calculation is shown to reproduce most observed features in several portions of the HD photoabsorption spectrum. The rovibrational frame transformation theory of Atabek, Dill, and Jungen is reformulated in terms of a quantum defect matrix. The calculation accounts for spectral regions far from dissociation thresholds despite its neglect of g–u mixing. Keywords
