Abstract
The cases treated were consecutive referrals to the clinic and included reactive, cyclothymic and involutional depression. 9 were in-patients and 7 were out-patients. 11 patients were treated with nicotinic acid, up to 900 mg. daily for 3 weeks and 4 responded favorably. 5 patients were treated with a placebo and 2 responded favorably. This result does not confirm a previous investigation (Washbourne. 1950) and the possible reasons for this are discussed. Keywords
