Abstract
Dielectric mirrors are a special kind of reflective device made from thin layers of material. Although they can exhibit large reflectivities for some wavelengths, the reflection properties are sensitive to the angle at which the light is incident on the mirror. In his Perspective, Dowling discusses a report in the same issue by Fink et al., in which a dielectric mirror operating over all angles is described. Such a device is expected to find wide application in optical and microwave systems.
