AN OBSTETRIC DATA PROJECT—GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Abstract
Obstetric data have been processed on a computer for the purpose of studying perinatal and maternal morbidity, replacing present coding methods in medical records and producing a discharge summary for each patient delivered. This system has the advantage of studying certain parameters in all cases, and yet has the facility to code and study associated diseases and other important yet uncommon data which may influence the outcome of a particular pregnancy. Some problems which have arisen and which are likely to develop from this study are discussed.
