Black Cornea A Complication of Topical Use of Epinephrine

Abstract
Three new cases of black cornea resulting from deposition of adrenochrome are reported. All 3 occurred in glaucomatous eyes in which there had been a bullous keratitis or ulcerative keratitis in patients who had received topical epinephrine from 6 months to 5 years. A ring ulcer caused by gram-positive diplococci was present in 1 case. The histochemical properties of the pigment are similar to those of melanin.
