Abstract
A content analysis of 2,217 cartoons from various magazines reveals a generally negative view of elders, especially compared to other age groups. Recurring negative themes were sexual dysfunction and ultra-conservatism while positive themes accentuated departures from expected roles. Also, it was noted that elders appear rather infrequently in cartoon humor, particularly in women's magazines. Keywords
