Abstract
Heats of mixing at 30 °C and vapor pressures at 30, 40, and 50 °C have been measured for the system water–sulfolane. The excess thermodynamic functions ΔGE, ΔHM, and ΔSE have been calculated. The value of the heat of solution [Formula: see text] indicates that the sulfone group is a weak proton acceptor. The effects of water activity on the H− acidity function values in hydroxide media have been compared for the systems water–sulfolane and water–dimethylsulfoxide. Keywords
