Theoretical Study of Ordering Effects During Electrochemical Insertion

Abstract
A new thermodynamic model is described that shows the effects of an ordered ion intercalation process. For a one‐dimensional host lattice, the resulting phase diagrams and incremental capacity curves are calculated. These results can be extended to two‐ and three‐dimensional cases. We emphasize the correlations between the existence of ordered distributions of inserted ions and the presence of extrema in the incremental capacity curves. Electrochemical insertions studies appear to be powerful tools for understanding ordering phenomena.
