Abstract
A micro‐surgical procedure was developed for the performance of simple, routine, standardized gingivectomies on the mesial papillae of the maxillary first molars of mice of different age. The application of subcutaneously administered sodium pentobarbital as anaesthetic, allowed for the handling of large numbers of animals in assembly‐line fashion with an animal loss of approximately 1%. The gingivectomies were performed under a stereomicroscope with remote focusing control at a magnification of 10 X using surgical microcurettes. A fiber‐optics cold light source was used to illuminate the surgical field. Keywords
