Identification and Quantitative Determination of Serotonin (5-hydroxy-tryptamine) in Blood Platelets.

Abstract
Serotonin was identified in bovine platelets by the coincidence of its u.-v. absorption spectrum with that of synthetic serotonin, and by the agreement of analyses based on u.-v. absorption, Folin-Ciocalteu reaction, and pharmacological assay. In amt., it averaged 23 [mu]g./mg. of dry platelets. No other indolic or pheolic substance was found in the platelet extracts.
