Abstract
An attempt was made to estimate the maintenance requirements of 14 lots of growing chickens, reared on different levels of nutrition, by means of the equation: dW/dt = C(dF/dt) [long dash] aW n, in which aW n represents the maintenance requirement, expressed in terms of body tissue lost. The maintenance requirement of the chicken appears to be proportional to the 5/3 power of the live weight. Since Cowgill has shown the vitamin B requirement of an animal to be proportional to the 5/3 power of the live weight, it is probable that the vitamin B requirement is proportional to the metabolism. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
