Abstract
The physical and chemical properties of freshwater lakes, ponds, and melt pools of coastal ice‐free areas of Enderby Land, Antarctica, and their seasonal dynamics, are discussed. The waters are significantly less mineralized than has been reported in other ice‐free areas of the antarctic. Tentative explanations for the divergencies are the location of the area with respect to storm tracks and the true melt‐water nature of the lakes. Primary production was variable and dependent on many factors, including seasonal temperature cycles in the water bodies.
