Abstract
Man's participation in limited space travel is imminent. Attention must be focused now upon the nature and extent of his participation in future manned space systems. It is imperative that the human not be assigned functions as an afterthought. Rather, functions must be assigned in a manner that will optimize system performance with respect to the mission requirements. This paper describes a practical methodology for determining the human operator functions within the context of a specific mission. A space ferry mission is used to illustrate the approach. Keywords
