Abstract
An Ontario peach orchard in which known amounts of DDT had been applied as foliage sprays was used to study the accumulation and distribution of this insecticide in the soil. Run-off from the foliage at the time of spraying was an important factor in the rate of DDT accumulation. Approximately 95 per cent of the accumulated insecticide was retained in the cultivated layer, and the amounts near the trunks of the trees were significantly greater than those under the peripheries of the trees or midway between adjacent trees. Keywords
