Response of Lowland Rice to Time and Method of Application of Phosphate1

Abstract
Field experiments were carried out for several years with lowland rice (Oryza sativa L.) to investigate methods and time of application of phosphate. Drill application of P at seeding was compared to topdressing 2 to 3 weeks after seeding. Topdressing at various times after seeding were also compared. Drilling phosphate fertilizer at seeding was superior to early‐season topdressing. Topdressing 2 weeks after seeding gave higher yields than topdressing later in the growing season.
