Abstract
Field experiments were carried out for several years with lowland rice (Oryza sativa L.) to investigate methods and time of application of phosphate. Drill application of P at seeding was compared to topdressing 2 to 3 weeks after seeding. Topdressing at various times after seeding were also compared. Drilling phosphate fertilizer at seeding was superior to early‐season topdressing. Topdressing 2 weeks after seeding gave higher yields than topdressing later in the growing season. Keywords
