Abstract
The effective conductivity tensor is calculated for a periodic composite composed of alternating rectangular blocks of two very unequal conductors. The two‐dimensional case of a checkerboard pattern of rectangles is also treated, and Gautesen’s result for it is obtained. The checkerboard of parallelograms is treated, too. The method can be applied to alternating parallelepipeds and to certain other configurations. Keywords
