Abstract
Unitarity and symmetry of the S-matrix imply an average time delay of a wavepacket of 2 pi h(cross)/nD, independently of the ratio Gamma /D; n is the number of open channels, D and Gamma the average separation and width of the resonances. Thus the correlation length of cross-section fluctuations coincides with Gamma if Gamma <>nD.Keywords
