Abstract
The growing popularity of the induction machine operating as a generator for low cost electric power generation from renewable energy sources such as micro-hydro, wind etc., has attracted the attention of technologists all around the world. In this paper, the modes of operation of the induction generators, potential applications, types of prime movers and detailed schemes for electric power generation are described. The technology status on generating systems alongwith cost effectiveness involving induction generators are given to suit them for wide variety of situations. Generating schemes for constant speed and variable speed prime movers are discussed using squirrel cage and slip-ring induction machines with other controlling equipments. The suitable guidelines are also given for the design of electrical parts of generating system. Keywords
