Abstract
There are two propositions on which everyone involved in the health care debate should be able to agree. First, for all the talk about our problems, Americans enjoy the greatest medical care in the world. Whether you are the richest or the poorest person on the planet, if you were going to get very sick today, you would want to be treated in the United States. Second, for all our spectacular success in developing lifesaving technology and training health care professionals to use it, every serious attempt to control medical costs in the past quarter-century has been a disappointing failure. . . .Keywords
